The Other Woman

I've been super excited ever sense I saw the trailer for The Other Woman I have been dying to see it. Anything staring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Nicki Minaj is going to be worth the $10.00 to see it. It's always a worry when funny movies air their trailers, we've all seen the movies where every funny part is shown in the trailer and that results in a not so funny movie. But this movie wasn't like that, it was hilarious. I was really worried that it was going to resemble an older version of John Tucker Must Die, another favorite of mine. But the movie's plot had a roller coaster worth of twist, turns, and funny throughout the whole thing. For those of you who haven't seen, or hear about it, or are living under a rock here's the plot and a link to the movie trailer.

The Other Women - After discovering her boyfriend Mark is married, Carly (Cameron Diaz) tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidentally meets the wife he's been cheating on, Kate (Leslie Mann), she realizes they have much in common, and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair, Amber (Kate Upton), is discovered, all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on the cheating, lying, three-timing Mark. Things get a lot crazier when they discover that Mark isn't a three-timer he's a four-timer!

Have you seen The Holiday, This is 40, Knocked Up, The Mask, Bad Teacher, or The Change-Up? Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz are seriously the best. I might have serious girl crushes going on. Cameron Diaz role is what I think of her classic strong women character, she's the solid base, the brains of the operation, she supports the group. Leslie Mann's character is the weirdest, naivest, sweetest women in the best way possible. I applaud you Leslie Mann for doing an outstanding job! Kate Upton's character I could really do without. She didn't really do anything, they should have either given her a larger role or cute her out she was kind of just there. And to perfectly honest she's not a very good actress. Nicki Minaj had a small role but when she was on screen she made a hilarious impact.

Fifty Shades of What??

I read the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy by E.L. James the summer before my freshmen year of college. Needless to say I was not prepared for results, I'm not really sure why I decided to read the trilogy I know it was about six months before frenzy of Fifty truly hit. To be honest I had heard brief whispers about the book and decided to check it out....without looking into the plot. I had never read any racy books and definitely no erotica so when I got to my first sex seen I was, well shocked and kind of grossed out. When I reached that point I flipped my book over and decided to read the synopsis on the back. After I finished the first book it took me about a month to read the last two but I did like the second and third book way better than the first. 

When I talk to other people about the books who haven't read them before I always tell them the first book sets the second two up. And that the second and third books have more plot development and are way more engaging. But yeah they all have a lot of sex in them. I can get past all the sex, since reading the trilogy I have read many books that have sex scene's in them and I have experienced more than when I first read Fifty so I moved past that part of the trilogy. The real problem I have is Ana is a weenie! I have a huge problem with wimpy and passive female characters. Call it the feminist in me but seriously this isn't the 1800s women can be their own people and stand up for themselves. I understand that Christian has many psychological demons and the two don't have a true BDSM relationship and that and that Ana loves him enough to want to help him and try new things in the bedroom but come on! She puts up with way too much!

There's no way I would put up with his relationship with Mrs. Robinson (aka Elena Lincoln) I mean that's a thousand times messed up! I am all for being courteous of  significant other but being good friends and business partners with your ex that taught you all about kinky sex, who is also twice your age and is your moms friend is just not okay. I know that's kind of hypocritical because I'm also against someone telling you who you can and can't be friends with but I don't think I could ever be okay with that friendship, for a lot of different reasons. The biggest problem I have is that Christian believes Ana is his property and she should obey his every wish. He doesn't want her to work, she shouldn't sun tan on the beach topless, he blamed her for her accidental pregnancy and he doesn't give on many of his wishes. After reading the full trilogy I believe as they went on in life these problems got better because Ana kept pushing the bounds but I think that would be maddening, never knowing a person's reaction. Always questioning if you stepped over the "arbitrary line" would get annoying pretty quickly.

If I ever re-read the books I choose to look past all the things I hate and focus on the good things. Like Christian loves Ana so much he's willing to really fix himself so they can be happy together. Or that Ana is willing to help Christian fight his demons, knowing that it will be a lot of work (but most relationships are a lot of work). I also like to keep in mind that Ana throws her drink in Elena's face in the end of the second book and that Teddy is adorable in the epilogue and if Ana had a significant role in Christian's change so did that little boy. 

At the end of Fifty Shades of Freed there's a chapter or two from Fifty Shades of Grey from Christian's point of view and I really hope E.L. James comes through on that! I would love to read the books from Christian's point of view and I think all of her readers would it would help everyone understand Christian's and Ana's relationship a whole lot better.

Awkward 

So I finally watch last weeks and this week's episodes of Awkward. Can I just say I'm glad normal Jenna's back instead of the bitchy girl from last season. Although Jenna is seriously selfish as most high school girls are it's rather annoying to see it played on TV, I feel like she keeps making the same mistakes over and over and it's lame that she's not really growing as a person. I also love how Tamara has all this new found confidence, she's really come into her own it's great, at the same time what is up with Jake's transformation? The hair alone.....I'm glad they're over but we all know Tamara will now obsess over him and their relationship or lack thereof. And poor Matty finding out he's adopted that would be a hard thing to go through, I hope Jenna comes out of her selfish bubble and helps him before it's to late for them to end up together. Because I do like Matty and Jenna together but not the whole friends with benefits thing that goes wrong every single time.

I think the good think about Awkward is that it's real; I mean Jenna's thought process is definitely how I thought in high school, always over thinking things even when there isn't anything to worry about. MTV did a good job with this show it's quirky but it shows how high school really is, well maybe not the school counselors part Val is kind of crazy.

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Last week Thursday Infinity the fourth and final book in the Infinity series by Layne Harper come out. And I'm sad to see to see the series end but I'm happy with how it ended.Colin and Caroline have a toxic relationship but at the same time they're meant to be together. I'm glad Colin finally figured out how selfish he was wanting everything to go his way and quit football. Both Colin and Caroline are really selfish to be honest and it was annoying. I mean obviously they can't both get everything they want while the other surrenders their life for them yet they keep living like it's possible. At least by the final book they got their shit together. 

I think it would be really cool to be a professional athlete but I don't think I could lie that life. Always traveling, the gossip, the pressure, being away from your family I think that life would be too hard. I'm glad Colin finally realized that the most important thing to him is his family. Seriously though I can't get over how selfish Colin and Caroline are, it's annoying all their problems could be solved if they had talked their problems out. Don't get me wrong I'm glad Colin and Caroline ended up happy and together even if they had to go through a rough time to get there.

Post Easter Days

I hope you guys had a good Easter, found all your Easter eggs, ate lots of candy, went to church. I had a nice four day weekend home, but sadly it's back to the dorms and three more weeks of classes for me. For those of you who are still in college "may the odds be ever in your favor" this week as you finish up class work and prepare for finals.

In a follow up to my last post Shelly Crane's The Significance Series, I have some pretty cool news. Producers are looking into making a movie out of the series but they need all the help they can get. The movie is being fan funded. For those of you who don't know what that means, don't feel bad I didn't know it was possible until a few days ago. Fans can donate money to help produce the film. Recently Released The Veronica Mars movie was fan funded and it turned out really well. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are popular with getting funding from fans and with the outstanding responses from fans Significance The Movie is trying it too. The goal is to raise $200,000 and currently they've raised $1,060.

There's also more information on the sight about the series structure, a synopsis of the plot, and a  short summary of the process going on with donating and producing the film. Book Recommendation

Significance

The Significance Series is a sweet romantic series about Maggie a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating - barely - and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.
Then she saves the life of Caleb and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.

They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive.

Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.

 What I loved about the series:

Caleb: He is the most adorable and loyal boy out there. He’s so sweet and even without his and Maggie’s paranormal connection I believe he would be just as devoted to Maggie. 

Maggie: Over the series she becomes a strong self-assured woman, which is a big change from the beginning of the series. She stops taking crap from people and starts being a leader. 

Maggie and Caleb’s first kiss: I love that Caleb is such gentlemen to wait to kiss Maggie. Even though the erg to kiss was strong after the imprint he still waited until they developed a relationship first. 

Caleb’s Family: Caleb’s family takes Maggie in and makes her feel like one of their own. They take care of her and put her first. They give her a family when she doesn’t have one. 

To be honest I really want a love like this, honest, sweet, everlasting, pure, and I want to love my best friend and that is what Maggie and Caleb have. I loved their relationship and the struggles they went through. I thought it was very realistic, well minus the imprinting and paranormal stuff. Even though Significance isn’t full of angst and sorrow it’s lighthearted and real. Not ever romance story has heartbreak and pain. Maggie and Caleb have real flaws and emotions and they work through them and in the end they’re happy.

Scandal 

Scandal's definitely a show where week to week it keeps surprising you, if any of this show is based off of real or somewhat real events that go on in D.C. I fear for our nation’s stability and moral ethics. Think about it, doesn’t it worry you this could all be happening, people in the government in a position of power covering up secrets, and the American people not even knowing what’s going on. That’s a pretty scary thing we live our lives and never think twice about the things we don’t know about. But we’ll never truly know the truth, will we?

Going against popular opinion I really hate the Olivia Pope and Fitz together. I personally like Olivia and Jake together. I just think Fitz is a selfish jerk. Don’t get me wrong I don’t like Mellie I think she’s any better (I feel bad for what Fitz’s father put her through) but all she does is manipulate people into getting what she wants. I’d like Olivia should be with Jake or alone but not with Fitz. He either needs to divorce Mellie or forget about Olivia. He can’t have both.

 I do kind of miss when OPA were fixing people's problems and ruining people's lives every episode but the plot has definitely thickened. The morals of the characters are all sketchy. What they can live with is appalling. I cannot believe Cyrus was going to let that bomb go off in the church and allow so many people to dye just so Fitz could win the election, I cannot believe Fitz (the president) killed someone, or that Fitz only won the presidency because they fixed ballets! I cannot believe Olivia's dad killed Fitz's son, and Olivia's leaving OPA with Jake!! This show is full of questionable morals that makes for great TV let’s pray there’s no truth behind it.

So many questions are still left unanswered.What will happen next? Is Olivia really quitting? Will Huck get his family back?  Will Fitz ever recover? Are Jake and Olivia really together? I can't wait for season 4!!
