Cinderella in Skates

After a long weekend with no internet access, I'm back online.

Over the weekend I read Cinderella in Skates by Carly Syms and I hated it. I was trying to find a book to read while I wait for this Saturday when Hate Me comes out. The
book is about Natalie Metler who moves from Arizona to Madison, Wisconsin in the middle of her Senior year of high school. Wanting to return to Arizona the following summer and then attend college down south she makes a deal with her parents: make her high school hockey team and she can return to Arizona to live with her grandparents for the summer.

This book appealed to me because I'm from Wisconsin and to read a book about the place your from is pretty cool. But I was really disappointed. The book moved slowly but quickly at the same time, not much happened but events happened quickly. SPOILER AHEAD: it bothered me when Natalie plays in her first hockey game (ever) and sucks her dad says she was disgracing the family name. Seriously that's horrible! She didn't even want to play but when she tries and chokes she gets yelled at, that's a good way to instill trying new things when she gets yelled at.

The events in the book move quickly and in no time it was over. It was pretty anticlimactic and it was rather boring. Yes Natalie and the boy end up together and yes she ends up getting what she wants and moving back to Arizona but there was nothing exciting or special about the story. I mean one minute she's hates Wisconsin, next she's dating a boy, then they break up, then there back together and the books done. I was let down because I was excited to read about my home state and it was pretty bad. The book could have been so much more, it could have been inspirational and heart warming. It wasn't.
